Current and former students can submit academic inquiries online through the Virtual Advising Center. Students are notified via UCSD email or text when their questions are answered. Go to vac.ucsd.edu. To receive text notifications, go to vac.ucsd.edu and click on notification preferences to receive text notifications.
Students may email their student forms, which can include SAP appeals, double major petitions, EPC petitions and supplemental materials, QxQ plans, etc. If you have any questions regarding academic matters, please message us through the VAC only.
Drop-in advising sessions are a maximum of 15 minutes and are first come, first served. You can attend drop-in advising at the HDSI Student Affairs Office.
Topics for drop-in advising with an HDSI UG Advisor can include:
- Course selection
- Academic deadlines
- Booking Courses (Enrollment)
- Hold clarification
- Resource referrals
* These advising issues can be discussed in a drop-in session or an appointment depending on the complexity of the questions.

HDSI UG Drop-in Availability:
For Fall 2026, we are offering both in-person and virtual drop-in advising as follows:
Weeks 0-2 (September 21-October 9): 15-minute drop-in advising between 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, first come, first served.
Week 3: 15-minute drop-in advising Wednesdays 9:00 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
As a reminder: long-term planning requires more than 15 minutes; please schedule an appointment with an advisor.

Attention Incoming Students!
Please wait to schedule a long-term planning appointment until week 3 or later of the fall quarter and ensure your academic history is up to date and viewable in TSS before the appointment. Without this information, the advising team can only provide general information, which is also available on the UCSD Academic Plans page at plans.ucsd.edu.
Topics requiring an appointment with a HDSI UG Advisor can include:
- Academic difficulty discussion
- Declaring a major/minor
- Double major planning
- Long-term planning
- Petitions (Triton Enrollment Authorization (TEA) request, double major, minor, course substitution, course pre-authorization, financial aid appeal)

*To prepare for your advising appointment, we recommend that you draft your academic plan so that it can be reviewed during your appointment. You may use the UCSD Academic Plans and your degree audit to create your own plan using the Academic Planning Worksheet.*

The campus is closed on all the major holidays: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Farmworkers Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
