Heriberto is thrilled to be joining the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute team as the new Undergraduate Student Academic Advisor. He holds a Bachelor’s in Comparative Literature and a Master’s in Postsecondary Educational Leadership and Student Affairs, both from San Diego State University. He has worked in higher education for over 18 years across local and international universities, community colleges, and high schools with roles such as Teaching Assistant, Student Services Specialist, Outreach Coordinator/Supervisor, Director of Student Development and Basic Needs, and Information and Computer Science Department Program Officer. He is passionate about restorative and social justice work and, in 2021, received the Chief Diversity Officer Leadership award from SDSU while pursuing an educational doctorate in College Leadership, focusing his research on support structures for students who were formerly incarcerated. Growing up in both San Diego and Tijuana, his transborder identity and curiosity have taken him on an international journey from a year abroad in Colombia as a Fulbright recipient in 2014 to a 3-year residence in Utrecht, Netherlands. Outside of work, Heriberto enjoys music, photography, poetry, theatre, and other artistic expressions
