Peter Chi joined HDSI as an Associate Teaching Professor in 2025. He received his PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Washington, and his research interests are in phylogenetics, statistics education, and casino games. Since starting his career in the Statistics Department at Cal Poly SLO in 2013, he has taught a multitude of different statistics courses ranging from introductory undergraduate-level courses in basic probability and statistical methods to advanced graduate-level courses in statistical theory and biostatistics, including a course he developed in statistical genetics while on the faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Villanova University.
He is the author of Probability Puzzles in R, a digital short course available at https://www.datacamp.com/portfolio/peterbchi. He is also a co-author of a suite of R Shiny applets for teaching statistics, available at https://statistics.calpoly.edu/shiny. He is active in the statistics education community, having served as an AP Statistics Reader for several years, serving as a regular reviewer for multiple journals in statistics education, and sharing educational materials and curricula with high school statistics teachers through his involvement with the Philadelphia Area Statistics Teachers’ Association (PASTA).
