The Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI) and the UC Berkeley Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing have created a joint two-year postdoctoral fellowship opening aimed at preparing outstanding researchers for academic and leadership careers in the theoretical aspects of Data Science. The postdoctoral Fellow will be based at HDSI and will spend up to one quarter per year at the Simons Institute in Berkeley. The jointly-appointed fellow will be given a research budget and faculty-type office, as well as a subsidy to cover the housing expenses during the course of postdoctoral appointment. Though not required, fellows will have the option to teach one or two data-science related classes during their two-year appointment.
The Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at UC San Diego is an academic unit with undergraduate and (upcoming) graduate degree programs in Data Science. The Institute’s core faculty consists of 47 faculty members with sole full-time appointment at the Institute or with a joint appointment in another academic department. Among the departments with jointly appointed faculty with HDSI are: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Mathematics, Cognitive Science, Neurobiology, Neurosciences, Biostatistics, Communications and Philosophy. The postdoctoral fellows will be able to work with any of the faculty members on the faculty council of the Institute.
