This year’s SIGMOD conference went back to an in-person conference. Remote participation was also an option for those in the database community.
Two faculty from HDSI participated in this year’s SIGMOD 22 conference. Both faculty had a particularly stellar year. Arun Kumar [ Google Scholar ] had one paper and was invited to a diversity and inclusion-themed panel discussion, and Babak Salimi, a 100% HDSI junior DB faculty hire who joined in Fall 2020, had four papers and a tutorial. Yannis Papakonstantinou [ DBLP|Google Scholar ], a UCSD Database lab colleague, was also in attendance including some (CSE) grad students and alumni, too.
This conference was held June 12-17, in Philadelphia, PA. The annual ACM SIGMOD/PODS Conference is a leading international forum for database researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore cutting-edge ideas and results, and to exchange techniques, tools, and experiences. The conference includes a fascinating technical program with research and industrial talks, tutorials, demos, and focused workshops. It also hosts a poster session to learn about innovative technology, an industrial exhibition to meet companies and publishers, and a careers-in-industry panel with representatives from leading companies.
