Advising hours are open to all students, regardless of declared major. There are two options students have when choosing to meet with the advisor: a 30 minute scheduled appointment, or a 10-15 minute drop in advising session.
Scheduled appointments are intended to support students who are: interested in discussing their interest in declaring the major or the minor, seeking course advisement based on their academic history, examining challenges and identifying available support services, reviewing minor applications and double major petitions, and creating long-term plans. If you need to cancel your appointment, we request that you notify the department at least 24 hours in advance. To schedule an appointment:
- Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 858-534-0198.
- In your email, please include:
- Preferred Date and Time based on availability indicated on advising calendar
- Alternative Date and Time based on availability indicated on advising calendar
- Reason for appointment
Spring Quarter Appointment Hours: See above.
Drop-in advising hours are designed to be only 10-15 minutes in length. These sessions are for 1-2 quick questions that can quickly be addressed. Drop-in advising is given on a first come, first served basis; there is no guarantee that you will see the advisor during these advising hours. The last student will be seen 15 minutes before the end of the advising hours available that day. We do not offer long term planning during drop-in advising hours.
Spring Quarter Update: Due to evolving University recommendations, typical drop in hours will be adjusted to appointment only.
Industry Advising is an opportunity to meet with HDSI Industry Partners to receive advisement related to a career in Data Science. For example, Industry Advisors can provide feedback on your resume, give you insight into a typical Data Science interview process, or answer your questions generally related to working as a Data Scientist.
Industry Advising is for Data Science Majors and Minors only.
Industry Advising Hours are paused for the Spring ’20 quarter.
All UC San Diego students are strongly encouraged to connect with the department through their Virtual Advising Center. Please be advised that we do not provide long term plan advisement through the VAC as this involves a much more thorough discussion.
